March 4 at Lincoln South Rotary

Mary Ann Stallings and Robbie Nathan from Bridge to Better Living were our speakers.

Bridge to Better Living provides consulting services to families looking for alternative living for loved ones.  In 2015, there were 47 million people over age 65.  It is expected that in 2030, there will be 72 million over age 65.  Following are the top 10 signs that you may need alternative living:  1) Nutrition 2) Medication 3) Mobility 4) Personal hygiene 5) Toileting 6) Household Chores 7) Social Interactions 8) Depression 9) Personal Finances 10) Cognitive Impairment – early signs of dementia.  She recommended the book “A Lucky Life Interrupted” by Tom Brokaw.  The consultants at Bridge to Better Living contract with the care facilities and the service to the family is at no cost to the families.  They work with facilities at each of the different care levels starting with Independent Living, followed by Assisted Living, Memory Assisted Living and Long Term Care.   All of the facilities vary greatly.  The general range for cost for Independent living is $1800 - $5000/month.  The range for Independent living with assistance ranges from $2800 - $5000 and general range for memory assisted living is $3700 - $6000/month.   The skilled care facilities usually range from $200-$355/day.    The Bridge to Better Living is a great resource to families looking for the next step to find alternative living options.
