This is the time of year when we ask Club Members to contribute to The Rotary International Foundation. We hope that you will consider an annual contribution amount of $120.

On January 15th our speaker was Barb Tyler -Marketing Director for Independence Houses which provide services for those with Alzheimers and other forms of dementia.  Independence Houses (also known as Emerald Communities) have 4 locations in Lincoln, each with fewer than 18 beds to allow personal attention. Dementia is a general term that is used for many different kinds of cognitive impairments which can have different symptoms and treatments. Alzheimers is the most well known version but there are many others including vascular dementia, Parkinsons dementia and Huntingtons to name a few.

 

There is no cure for dementia but the goal is to slow the progress and re-train the brain to help those affected to maintain their daily lives. Depression is also a big part of Dementia so it must be addressed as well.

Our speaker at Lincoln South Rotary Club on Friday, January 22 will be Roberta Pinkerton of Leadership Nebraska/Nebraska State Chamber.

Wayne Moore presented the club with a banner from the Rotary Club of Barbados where he recently attended a meeting.

Lincoln South will be collecting food and cash donations for the Lincoln Food Bank from now through the Friday before the Super Bowl. Kay Wunderlich, chair of the drive has set a goal of more than 1,100 total pounds of food plus cash. If you would like to donate items or cash you can bring them to the regular Friday meetings and Kay will deliver them to the food bank. Click on the link below to see the most needed items at the food bank which include not only food but personal items as well. Collections will continue through Super Bowl Friday.

 

 

Clay Ehlers announced that there will be a technical session held at his home on February 3, 2016 for those who are interested in learning more about access to the Rotary websites. It is also Nicki's birthday so there will be some celebrating going on. Please contact Clay if you are interested.

If the Nebraska State Offices are closed due to weather, then Lincoln South Rotary Club will cancel.
