Paige Zutervern.president of Strictly Business was our speaker on 4/22/16. 32 years ago the magazine Strictly Business was started by Paige and her husband, whom she described as the real entrepreneur. Its first business endeavor was ads that were placed on bathroom stall doors but they quickly shifted to the magazine that is a "local business magazine that concentrates on local issues." The first year was extremely challenging, but our own Kay Wunderlich was an enormous help as she was transitioning between jobs and was able to help them.
They have now been in Omaha for 8 years. They mail 10,000 editions to businesses in Lincoln and 15,000 to businesses in Omaha. They also hand distribute to several doctors' offices etc. Their goals include: 1.) Encouraging people to shop locally, 2.) Educating readers about their advertisers and 3.) Making clients more personal-putting a face to a name.
The magazine has a service organization section. It costs a non-profit $150 to participate and they can share their needs. They have 8 pages devoted to non-profits. Advertisers who are clients can have an unlimited number of press releases. Those who are not clients can have one press release per year.

Over the weekend of April 15, a group of high school students gathered at Camp Kitaki for the annual RYLA camp. The students were sponsored by clubs in Rotary District 5650 and also included the Youth Exchange Students that we are hosting in our Clubs. The weekend event provides an opportunity for youth to develop a variety of skills.

WINNER! Lincoln South Rotary Club and Russ's stores sold raffle tickets for the annual Grocery Grab with Russ's - a chance for the winner to "run through the store and grab all they can in 3 minutes up to a value of $1,000".
The winner this year . . . St. Mark's United Methodist Church food pantry.
The fundraiser raised $1,400 this year which is a record.
Another grant opportunity . . . these projects are typically from $2,000 to $3,000. With these projects we are seeking ideas for projects - where we can include active involvement by Rotary Club Members.
Some past activities - supporting the development of a handicap accessible access to the Southern Heights Food Forest, providing furniture and storage for the child care center at Voices of Hope, providing and installing equipment for a theater room at the Salvation Army Resource center and building a portable mini-golf course for the Northeast Family Center.
The Lincoln South Rotary Club Foundation is taking applications for grants to be awarded early in June. Applications are due May 20, 2016 by 5:00 PM.
Grants awarded through the Lincoln South Rotary Foundation generally are in the area of youth and education. All club members are encouraged to discuss these opportunities with organizations that might benefit from these grants.

Lincoln South Rotary Club Foundation International Dinner:
Lincoln South will hold hold an International Dinner on June 4th at the home of John & Nancy Herdman. This is a fundraiser for the Lincoln South Rotary Club Foundation which provides grants twice per year to 2 local organizations focusing on youth and education. The most recent grants have been for the benefit of The Penguin Project of The Lincoln Community Playhouse, Girls on the Run of Nebraska and the Down Syndrome Associations for Families. Members are asked to bring ideas forward for future recipients.
Rotaract Meeting:
Clay Ehlers reported that the Wayne State, Omaha, UNL and Peru State College Rotaract clubs all came together and shared ideas regarding membership, fundraising, service projects etc.
