This is the time of year when we ask Club Members to contribute to The Rotary International Foundation. We hope that you will consider an annual contribution amount of $120.

Our speaker at Lincoln South Rotary Club on Friday, January 22 was Roberta Pinkerton of Leadership Nebraska/Nebraska State Chamber. The Leadership Nebraska Program at the Chamber was founded in 2006 to identify current and emerging leaders throughout Nebraska, enhance their leadership skills, and deepen their knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing our state as well as to build a network of leaders across the state.

 

The program selects 25-30 participants each year who meet 6 times during the year in various locations in the state for education sessions on Health & Human Services, Economic Development, Education & Workforce Development, Agriculture & Natural Resources and Public Policy & Government. The sessions include speakers, lots of discussion & debate, simulations and industry tours.

 

Carly Woythaler-Runestad of the Mourning Hope Grief Center will be our presenter on January 29, 2016. See Cary's bio below.

Lincoln South will be collecting food and cash donations for the Lincoln Food Bank from now through the Friday before the Super Bowl. Kay Wunderlich, chair of the drive has set a goal of more than 1,100 total pounds of food plus cash. If you would like to donate items or cash you can bring them to the regular Friday meetings and Kay will deliver them to the food bank. Click on the link below to see the most needed items at the food bank which include not only food but personal items as well. Collections will continue through Super Bowl Friday.

 

Keep in mind that a $1 contribution to the Food Bank buys 3 meals, $25 will feed a family of 4 for one week and $100 will feed a family with a single mom and 2 kids for one month, so your contributions go a long way.

 

 

Clay Ehlers announced that there will be a technical session held at his home on February 3, 2016 for those who are interested in learning more about access to the Rotary websites. It is also Nicki's birthday so there will be some celebrating going on. Please contact Clay if you are interested.

Mark your calendars for the Salute to Business event on Tuesday April 5, 2016. This event is sponsored by all 4 Lincoln Rotary clubs and honors a local business which has contributed to job growth in the community. The luncheon will be held at the Cornhusker Hotel and Nelnet has been selected as the honoree this year. Lincoln South Rotary is putting together a table of 10 so if you would like to attend, contact Joe Roberts. Cost is $30 per person. This event will count as our regular meeting so Lincoln South will NOT be holding its meeting on Friday April 8th.

 

If the Nebraska State Offices are closed due to weather, then Lincoln South Rotary Club will cancel.
