Dave Livingston District Endowment Chair was our speaker.
Dave has been asking Rotarians to support the International Foundation for 23 years. Dave started by praising our club for our rich history of supporting the foundation. He spoke about the late Dr. Lytton who was a big supporter of the foundation. Dr. Lytton played a big part in starting the tradition of giving to the foundation and his legacy has lived on. Joe Roberts has acted as Foundation Chair for many years and has done a great job carrying on the tradition.
He spoke about what $1000 did back when the Paul Harris recognition was established and what that equates to today. In July 2015, Nigeria for the first time had zero polio cases. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation match has also made a difference. If you donate $25, that turns into $75 with the match. Dave explained the Annual Fund as well as the Endowment fund. You can name your Endowment and can direct the general direction of the funds. With the Endowment, roughly a $25,000 gift generates $1000 income per year. A large portion of the gifts to the foundation come back to our own communities. The International Foundation gives 92% to programs and has a very low overall administrative expense of 2%. The overall goal of the Foundation is to promote goodwill and peace – an opportunity to make a difference in the world.
Joe Roberts, our club's foundation chair reminded us that our annual Foundation Drive is in full swing through the end of January. The club goals: 100% participation - $120/member ($10/month) and increase number of member contributions via pre-authorized bank and credit card. There will be a drawing at the end of January where someone will be awarded an immediate Paul Harris Fellow from a contribution from the club.
Lincoln South Rotary Club is now a sponsor of Rotaract. We have partnered with Lincoln #14 in supporting a Rotaract Club at UNL.
There will be many opportunities to work with the student members of Rotaract. We will invite them to our meetings and events - and we will have opportunities to attend theirs. We can help by becoming mentors, providing speakers, and work together on projects.
All members are invited, and encouraged, to be a part of this relationship.

Lincoln South Rotary Club has a strong tradition of supporting The Rotary International Foundation. Many members support at $120 per year. But others have pledged even more.
Tracey McLain has pledged $1,000 per year. At this level Tracey is a member of the Paul Harris Society.

Lincoln South Rotary Club received a Certificate of Appreciation for supporting the Polio Plus Campaign during the 2014-15 Rotary Year. Accepting the certificate is Jenny Cardwell, Lincoln South Rotary Club President 2014-15.
In a letter from District Governor Rod Bates, it was pointed out that Lincoln South Rotary was among the 9 clubs (out of 45) in Rotary District 5650 contributing $1500 or more for the year.
Lincoln South Rotary Club will offer Nuts, Candy and Coffee products again this year for the Holidays. With this fundraiser, club members can pre-order products to sell*, or you can just place orders as you make sales.
Orders placed by Noon on Tuesday will be available at Rotary that same Friday. Send orders to nklein2@neb.rr.com. Though we focus our Nut Sales efforts during the Holidays, the products are available at any time at the Fundraiser prices.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing: 12/19/15. All shifts have been filled, but you can contact Salvation Army if you’d still like to help as they still need volunteers
Christmas Party: 12/12/15 at the home of John & Nancy Herdman. Bring a covered dish or appetizers. Drinks at 5:30 and Dinner at 6:30. There will be a gift exchange again this year so if you want to participate you will need to bring a $15 to $20 gift.
