The Lincoln South Rotary Club annual Scholarship Selection Meeting was April 1, 2016.

On March 25, 2016 our speaker at Lincoln South Rotary Club was Lincoln's Public Safety Director Tom Casady who told us about a life-saving CPR assistant, Pulse Point which is an app that can be installed on smart phones. The app connects the phone to the Lincoln Fire & Rescue (LFR) call center to show the location of cardiac arrest calls throughout the city. The goal is to get someone there to help as quickly as possible since minutes count when it comes to surviving a heart attack. The app also shows where the nearest defibrillator (AED) is located. He told of a recent incident at an elementary school where a 5th grader stopped breathing. 2 strangers showed up at the door who had the app on their phone and told them where they could find the nearest AED.

Mark your calendars for the Salute to Business event on Tuesday April 5, 2016. This event is sponsored by all 4 Lincoln Rotary clubs and honors a local business which has contributed to job growth in the community.
The luncheon will be held at the Cornhusker Hotel and Nelnet has been selected as the honoree this year.
Lincoln South Rotary is putting together a table of 10 so if you would like to attend, contact Joe Roberts. Cost is $30 per person. This event will count as our regular meeting so Lincoln South will NOT be holding its meeting on Friday April 8th.
The Annual Grocery Grab with Russ's is coming up soon (click here for flyer). The Grocery Grab is our major source of funds for the Scholarship awards. Tickets can be sold by Lincoln South Rotary Club Members at a discount - 3 tickets for $25. Otherwise tickets are $10 per ticket (available through Rotary Club Members or at any Russ's store.)
The drawing will be at 3:00 PM on Tuesday April 19 at Russ's IGA 33rd and Highway 2. We are looking for a few volunteers who can be at the Russ's store on Sunday April 17th to offer Grocery Grab tickets to customers. We will finalize our sale times and slots once we know who is available to volunteer. Tentatively we are looking at selling between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Contact Nicki Klein if you can help.
Tom Cardwell is asking for 2-3 volunteers to help with the RYLA camp at camp Kitaki from April 15th to April 17th. RYLA which is Rotary Youth Leadership Award puts on a camp each year to teach leadership skills to high school youth. Please contact Tom if you can help.
We are also looking for more applicants (high school juniors and seniors).
Please be thinking of potential grant recipients for 2016 for the Rotary International Grant. This is a $2000-$3000 grant. Let one of our board member know if you want to submit an idea.
