December 11 at Lincoln South Rotary
Jenny (as Lincoln South Rotary Club President 2014-15) and Tom Cardwell attended the Rotary International Convention in Sao Paulo. The trip was full of challenges and obstacles. But, that did not overshadow the friendship and goodness that surrounds us all in Rotary.

Jenny and Tom shared some of the highlights of their trip which included:

The House of Friendship
Using Google translation to help them communicate.
Member Exposition Center
Speaker Dr. Oscar Arias, Former president of Costa Rica and a Nobel Peace Laureate.
2 children spoke about changing the world
Rotary Fellowship Groups
President's luncheon
Unique Hotel shaped like a ship

Coming December 18 at Lincoln South Rotary
Dave Livingston will present to Lincoln South Rotary Club about the wonderful work that we do through The Rotary Foundation and our Club and how we can help support that continued work through endowment options.
Annual Foundation Drive
Joe Roberts, our club's foundation chair kicked off our annual Foundation Drive which will run through the end of January. The goal is 100% participation of at least $100 from club members.  Online giving is preferred or using the Rotary Direct program which deducts from your account each month.  There will be a drawing at the end of January where someone will be awarded an immediate Paul Harris Fellow from a contribution from the club.
Lincoln South Rotary Sponsors Rotaract
Lincoln South Rotary Club is now a sponsor of Rotaract. We have partnered with Lincoln #14 in supporting a Rotaract Club at UNL.

There will be many opportunities to work with the student members of Rotaract. We will invite them to our meetings and events - and we will have opportunities to attend theirs. We can help by becoming mentors, providing speakers, and work together on projects.

All members are invited, and encouraged, to be a part of this relationship.
Tracey McLain becomes a member of the Paul Harris Society
The future of The Rotary International Foundation and all of the wonderful projects supported by the funds is in our hands.

Lincoln South Rotary Club has a strong tradition of supporting The Rotary International Foundation. Many members support at $120 per year. But others have pledged even more.

Tracey McLain has pledged $1,000 per year. At this level Tracey is a member of the Paul Harris Society.

Thank you, Tracey, for your financial and personal commitment to The Rotary International Foundation and Lincoln South Rotary Club.
Polio Plus Contribution Recognition
Lincoln South Rotary Club received a Certificate of Appreciation for supporting the Polio Plus Campaign during the 2014-15 Rotary Year. Accepting the certificate is Jenny Cardwell, Lincoln South Rotary Club President 2014-15.

In a letter from District Governor Rod Bates, it was pointed out that Lincoln South Rotary was among the 9 clubs (out of 45) in Rotary District 5650 contributing $1500 or more for the year.

The certificate and letter are below.

Dictionary Project
A thank-you note was read from a student at Maxey Elementary thanking Rotary for the dictionary. It read as follows:

"It means a lot that you come every year. My sister got one 2 years ago and I have been waiting for mine".
No Lincoln South Rotary Club Meeting 12-25-15 or 1-1-16
The Lincoln South Rotary Club will not meet on December 25 or January 1.
New Lincoln South Rotary Club Member Presentations
On December 4th new members Daniel Kistler, Dave Dietz, Matt Horak and Rosita Moore told the club a little bit about themselves.

Daniel grew up in Grand Island Nebraska. Growing up, he was actively involved in community service groups. He is currently a financial advisor with Waddell Reed. He is a big sports fan both as a participant and as a spectator.

Dave Dietz is the husband of Lincoln South member Chris Dietz. He was a farm kid who attended a one room country school. He enlisted in the US Navy and served in Viet Nam. He has an Electrical Engineering degree from UNL and is a Harley rider.

Matt was raised on a farm and is a fraternal twin. He became a chiropractor as a result of an injury that he sustained in 5th grade. He did his undergraduate work at UNL, and finished at the Kansas School of Chiropractic in Overland Park Kansas. He opened a new practice in May.  He is a RYLA graduate which fostered his interest in Rotary.

Rosita was born in Barbados and is a high school teacher of History and English. She achieved a PHD along with her husband and has done a lot of editing work for dissertations and theses. She has had many lasting experiences with multicultural students, "adopted" daughters and grandkids via relationships with former students.

We are happy that you are part of Lincoln South Rotary Club!
2015-16 Nut Sales Fundraiser
Lincoln South Rotary Club will offer Nuts, Candy and Coffee products again this year for the Holidays. With this fundraiser, club members can pre-order products to sell*, or you can just place orders as you make sales.

Orders placed by Noon on Tuesday will be available at Rotary that same Friday. Send orders to nklein2@neb.rr.com.  Though we focus our Nut Sales efforts during the Holidays, the products are available at any time at the Fundraiser prices.
