Nebraska Deputy Ombudsman and City Council Member

Carl Eskridge, a native of North Carolina, has been a Nebraska resident since 1979.  He was elected as the City Council representative for District 4, Central and NW Lincoln, in May of 2011 and will complete his second term in May. He is the City Council’s representative on the West Haymarket Joint Public Agency and chairs the Council’s Internal Liquor Committee. In addition to his elected position, Carl has served Nebraskans since 1996 in the Nebraska Office of Public Counsel/Ombudsman, and became the acting State Ombudsman last December upon the retirement of Marshal Lux, who served as the State Ombudsman for 38 years.  The Ombudsman’s Office is a division of the Legislature and assists citizens in resolving disputes with state agencies.

Prior to his public service, Carl was in full time ministry in the Presbyterian Church in the Lincoln area and continues to assist congregations as an at-large minister.  His educational background includes degrees from the University of Nebraska College of Law, San Francisco (CA) Theological Seminary, Austin (TX) Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and St. Andrews University in North Carolina. He is an active community mediator and facilitator of groups, and has served on various community boards and organizations; including, recent service on the boards of NeighborWorks Lincoln and the Woods Charitable Fund.

Carl’s wife, Janet Hannah Eskridge, is an artist who established the Art Therapy program at Children’s Hospital in Omaha.  Carl and Janet have two grown daughters, Hannah and Rachel, and four grandchildren, all of whom are strong motivators to make our great community an even better place for the future.
