John asked the audience to name some characteristics of Rotarians. We shared things like having a big heart, giving, caring, helpful, ambitious, compassionate, cooperative, generous, kind spirit and ethical.
We then shared what we like most about Rotary - why we are members - International reach, fellowship, being part of a bigger impact focus of Rotary to change the world, Polio Eradication efforts, learning from speakers and each other, all ages welcome, helping people who don't know it is us, visiting the world.
Why did we join Rotary? Most say because we were asked. He challenged us to draw a circle and consider who is in our circle of friends - our circle of influence. Then lets ask that next Rotarian.
John shared some of his meeting make-up opportunities. He has years of perfect attendance and he enjoys finding meeting make-up opportunities. He has made up all over the United States but also internationally. He shared some his most enjoyable experiences while visiting Rotary Clubs in Germany.
He also shared the benefits of being part of the Rotary Fellowships. There are fellowships for all interests - golfing, scuba diving, flying, wine or beer enthusiasts, etc. He is a member of the International Travel and Hosting Fellowship. The first multi-club district grant project was the Lincoln Dictionary Project which John learned about while visiting with a fellow Rotarian through the Fellowship.
John's passion for Rotary Membership is one of the things that drives him to be active in Rotary - in our Club and in our District in all aspects of Rotary. That passion turned in to action and John was awarded with the highest service honor of our District - The Cadwallader Award.
