The Lincoln South Rotary Club meeting August 9 was moved to the Nebraska State Capital for a special tour.

Bob Ripley, FAIA is the Nebraska Capitol Administrator and was our tour guide.

The tour took us to places that are not included in the normal Capitol tour.  Bob’s expertise gave us inside information that could only come from someone who has spent over 30 years as Capitol Administrator and in charge historic renovation over $100,000,000.

Their current project is the massive updating of the heating and air conditioning systems.  Bob is an architect and explained in detail the true wonders of this architectural masterpiece and how it was unique and groundbreaking at the time it was built and completed in 1932.

Bob is the winner of the Cunningham Gold Medal, which is awarded by the State Chapter of American Institute of Architects and he was inducted into the College of Fellows by the American Institute of Architects. In addition to all his awards, he authored a book titled, “Thomas Rogers Kimball, FAIA: Unsung Hero of the Nebraska Capitol.”  If any of you wish to thank him for the tour his email address is: bob.ripley@nebraska.gov.

The group adjourned to Billy's for a reception following the tour.
