Earlier this Rotary Year, we heard from Linked2Liteacy (we are featured on their website: https://www.linked2literacy.org/). They partnered with Lutheran Family Services to provide books for Ukranian and Afghan children in our District - please read more.
President Matt announced that, during the Rotary District Conference on April 1, 2023, $7,000 was donated by those in attendance to purchase books for the Ukrainian and Afghan children living in our District. This was a joint effort between Linked2Literacy (who previously spoke at our club) and Lutheran Family Services.

Letter from District Governor Barbara Bartle:

We were so pleased to receive donations at the District Conference for over $7,000 to purchase books for the Ukrainian and Afghan children living in our District.

This is a partnership with Lutheran Family Services, Joel Stoltenow, and Linked2Literacy, Kathleen Ousey.  The books are now ready to be distributed to the children and families in your area.  We selected Lincoln, Omaha, Council Bluffs, Norfolk and Columbus because LFS has case workers in those communities that will work with the families to get the books distributed.

While they are in your community, Joel and Kat would like to visit your club for a short report or if you need a program, they would also be happy to present for a longer period.  They may need volunteer assistance with distribution of books. They will be reaching out to coordinate with you.  Perhaps if you have more than one club in your community, you could pick one of your club meetings for a joint meeting.  I am sure you will work it out.  You are all connected now with this email and meeting dates are in the link below.  Thank you so much.

With appreciation,
Barbara
