The Golden Wheel Awards were developed by Rotary District 5650 to honor those who exemplify Rotary’s principle motto, Service Above Self.
This year was the first year for the award. The Lincoln South Rotary Club Board selected Nancy Green a retired RN who volunteers her time locally and internationally.

Nancy visited Lincoln South Rotary Club on April 21, 2023. Per Nancy "when Matt asked if I would accept the Golden Wheel Award I was not aware of the significance to Rotary but also the the Communities in the Rotary District. It is a privilege to receive this award and I am overwhelmed with gratitude".

She shared some of her volunteer activities. She has helped with clinics on the Pine Ridge reservation. Though she has not traveled with Dr. Chuck Erickson, she has performed similar volunteer clinic work in Zambia. And, she volunteers for her church, spending time with members who are ill.

She also volunteers at the Clinic With A Heart. She wore a scarf given to her by the volunteer coordinator of the Clinic With A Heart to the ceremony when she received her Golden Wheel medallion. She wanted to honor that volunteer coordinator who has since passed away.

As written in the Rotary District Conference Program:
Nancy Green grew up in Deshler, learning the value of volunteering from her parents, and now passing on to her daughters. As a retired registered nurse, her volunteer work includes: Clinic With a Heart, four mission trips to the Pine Ridge Reservation, Project Lincoln Connect, and two mission trips to Zambia to work at a remote clinic. As a Congregational Care Minister for her church, Nancy makes hospital, rehab, and extended care visits weekly. Serving on the Board for Re-Entry Alliance of Nebraska and as a member of The Homeless Coalition are additional activities.
