A group of seven visitors were invited to Nebraska by the Lincoln Council for International Visitors. They were at Lincoln South Rotary Club answering questions about U.S. – European Security issues.
The visitors were participating in the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs' exchange program. They are a delegation of military defense experts invited to participate in the program by the U.S. Embassies in their countries.
 
PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVES
 
The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:
  • Expose participants to the U.S. security and defense policy‑making process and perspectives on global issues;
  • Examine specific security issues, such as regional conflicts, weapons proliferation, energy security, homeland security, international terrorism, and the use of preventive diplomacy to address these challenges;
  • Discuss the European security architecture, including the evolving roles of NATO, the EU, the UN and other international organizations in dealing with global crises;
  • Explore the benefits of U.S.‑European cooperation on security policy worldwide.
