Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (MTKO) is named in honor of Matt Talbot, an Irish Catholic alcoholic known as the “Patron Saint” of Alcoholics.
Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach grew out of concern for low income and homeless alcoholics.. The idea of providing a meal in order to reach those who may be in need arose. It wasn't long until enough volunteers were organized to serve a meal one night a week. In September 1992, they began serving meals each Saturday evening.
The program gradually grew to what they offer now - meals 7 days a week - both lunch and dinner. Many of the volunteers are organizations - that bring teams of individuals to serve meals.
In keeping with the original mission, they continue to address additions including substance abuse counseling, classes and evaluations.
There is a foot care clinic and other medical services - partnering with professionals in the community to provide services and referrals. Clients can also come to Matt Talbot to do laundry and take showers.
One of the services is to provide a place to place and receive messages and also receive mail for those without a permanent address.
