It was a celebration at Lincoln South Rotary Club on Friday June 28. What a year we had 2018-19 and we can look forward to more in 2019-20.

Suzanne (2018-19 Lincoln South Rotary Club President) started by reviewing last year, including: The Club held a Tribute to First Responders with 55 First Responders in attendance. The event was attended by 365 people and was an opportunity for the community to show support to our First Responders. At the event, Lincoln South Rotary Club provided $1,000 grant to Shop With A Cop, $1,000 to Safe Kids of Lincoln-Lancaster County, and over $6,000 to Crime Stoppers.

During the last year Grants were provided to support Lincoln Literacy, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Bright Lights Summer Robotics program, and the Food Bank of Lincoln and Lancaster County. Scholarships were provided to three college-bound students, high school students were sponsored at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp, and the club supported the Wheelchair Project of the UNL Rotaract Club. The Club has a regular shift for delivering Meals on Wheels for Tabitha.

The Rotary Clubs in Lincoln partnered on projects and activities. They presented dictionaries to 4th graders, raised awareness and funds for the eradication of polio, a signature project of Rotary, and held a Salute to Business, this year honoring Firespring. And, Lincoln South Rotary Club supported the development of a new Rotary Club in Lincoln to expand the service provided by Rotary in our community.

Chan (2019-20 Lincoln South Rotary Club President) accepted the podium and gave us a preview of next Rotary Year.

He said that it is obvious Lincoln South Rotary Club is made of up members who give back, get involved, care, and also like to have fun.

He encouraged us to attend - club meetings, events, and district activities. :Eighty percent of success is just showing up! ~~ quote credited to Woody Allen"

Next year Chan hopes that we can continue to strive to earn the #1 Club in the District recognition for Membership, giving to The Rotary Foundation, giving to Polio Plus and attending events. We already have over half of our members in key leadership and administrative positions for next year. He asked us all to find where we want to serve - an area of our interest - and he will be sure we are connected to that committee.

While continuing our wonderful events and support from past years, we are planning to embark on a new project - Girls Leadership Institute. We will also hold our 2nd Tribute to First Responders event in 2020.
