We got to know Katie McDermott, new member of Lincoln South Rotary Club, during her Member Moment presentation Friday, February 10, 2023.
Katie is originally from Georgia and she earned two degrees from the University of Georgia. While working in the social services field in Washington DC she met and married her husband.
With the promotions within his career they moved to Oklahoma and shortly thereafter to Lincoln where he works at Southeast Community College. That is how she met Nikki Isemann (who works at SCC) who told her about Rotary and invited her to join Lincoln South Rotary.
Katie serves as Director of Onboarding and Support for the learning management system - Fig Learning. She explained that it is a start-up company - she could not imagine the amount of work a start-up company can be. She has not yet met the company CEO in person - all meetings have been b Zoom.
Katie has performed comedy - both improv and stand-up. She said she had one stand-up performance that was okay - though she would not call it a success (and other performances weren't as good).
One philosophy she shares - do not be afraid to fail.
