We learned about the Lincoln Community Foundation on March 2 from our speaker Chip DeBuse, Vice President for Development.
The Lincoln Community Foundation (LCF) was formed in 1955 as a means to pull people together to provide help handling gifts and provide all of the expertise needed to manage a nonprofit organization. They are located that was originally named the Center For Philanthropy. It still houses only nonprofit organizations.

There are three areas of focus of the Lincoln Community Foundation (LCF):
Empowering Donors
Helping Nonprofits
Impacting Community

The mission of LCF is to provide leadership and resources to help build a great city. Our role is to help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals, support nonprofit organizations that improve our quality of life, and foster community collaboration to address challenges and opportunities.

You can donate to an established fund through LCF or set up something new. They have the flexibility to help you achieve any charitable goals. People often use the Lincoln Community Foundation to create a fund to support causes and organizations that are important to them. It is possible for a group to join forces and set up a fund, including endowment funds (that have a minimum investment of $10,000). LCF may be able to add funds in support of that. By working through LCF, you can choose investment strategies that will help you meet the desired results.

LCF manages 900+ different funds - each set up for a specific purpose. Over the life of the organization they have received $208million in gifts and given $117million in gifts. The first gift was for $539 to purchase a slide and movie projector. for the Pinewood Bowl.

Give to Lincoln Day is one of the ways that LCF is helping nonprofits. Coming up on May 31, 2018, this will be the 7th Give to Lincoln Day. During the first Give day, During the Give to Lincoln Day individuals can donate to any of the programs being supported by LCF. $1.3million was donated in 24 hours - online and offline. Last year they handled $3.7million supporting 365 different nonprofit organizations.

One of the reasons Give to Lincoln Day is a success is that the LCF provides a partial match for all donations. It also helps nonprofits raise awareness of their organization and purpose. And, the timing is great for the nonprofit organizations with operating funds as typically donations are done June through August.

Through the Lincoln Community Foundation, Chip is able to work with people and their ideas in support of their passions.
