As her title states - the focus of her presentation was on Dreams.
She pointed out that dreams are what drive us. Our passions are behind our dreams. We are not driven by our goals, an aim or aspiration or a plan. We need those things to accomplish our dreams.
Donde was challenged with improving the UNL College of Business. Though we all see the new building - it was not about building a building it was about building a college.
She visited with the staff and asked about their dreams. She helped them articulate their dreams. She challenged them to look beyond what they are to what they want to be.
"We want to be better" "We want to be proud of our college" "I wish I knew other staff better" "I wish people wanted to come to college here" "We want to be ranked higher". After listening to them she added her dreams as well. When the dreams were all combined that became the dream for the college.
The dream was defined . . . "to build a world class college". Then everyone was invited to help build it. Many people were brought to the table including advisory boards. Fundraising asks were presented as supporting the dream.
The leader is the face of the project - the steward of the dream - helping others move toward the dream.
There are a number of "points of pride" for the College (click here).
