It was just one flyer laying on the table among many. It offered a trip to Zambia. It grabbed my interest, and after a few emails, I found myself buying a plane ticket to Africa for next June.

This trip is a part of an ongoing grant from Rotary International. Dr. Chuck Erickson, the team leader will be making his tenth trip. He has a passion for infant nutrition. Children need protein to let the brains develop to their full potential. Clean water is essential for healthy living, Gardening projects provide healthy vegetables. Goats are a sustainable source of meat and other resources.

One time gifts can hurt more than help. The goal of this grant is to move to a sustainable and repeatable way of giving Zambians the tools to make their lives better.

Thanks for your support as we take “Service Above Self” from the banner on the wall and make it a way of life."

The team that will be traveling to Zambia early in June made a short presentation at Lincoln South Rotary Club on Friday April 21. There have been as many as 10 trips to Zambia by many members of Rotary District 5650 and others.. This trip, they intend to focus on reviewing the grant projects to date to evaluate their effectiveness and see how to best serve in the future. They are taking a 3-prong approach - focusing on Water, Agriculture and Nutrition.
