At Lincoln South Rotary Club on September 6, 2024, we reached 18 Rotarians, Guests and Speaker - in person and online.

The Annual Salute to Business is a collaborative event of The Rotary Clubs of Lincoln. We hold a luncheon and honor one business that has made a significant contribution to the city of Lincoln through employment of people and the good works they perform.

Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.

For the Lincoln South Rotary Club August 30 meeting held at Epic Church, we had 32 reservations including guests for this in-person only meeting. A special thank you to Bobby Cunningham for allowing us to use his church for this meeting.

Lincoln South Rotary Club and the Lincoln Center Kiwanis Club held a joint meeting on August 30 featuring UNL Athletic Director Troy Dannen. The meeting was held at the Epic Church.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) events take place all over the country - in fact all over the world. High school students in Eastern Nebraska and Southwestern Iowa have the opportunity to attend one of these life-changing events October 11-13. Lincoln South Rotary Club heard from Michon Morrow, Lincoln Chief of Police, on August 23, 2024. She shared the vision for the Lincoln Police Department.

On August 16, 2024 we heard from Lisa Janssen with an update on The Gathering Place.

The District 5650 Global Grants committee has selected Anna Singharath to be the 2024-25 Global Grants Scholar. Lincoln South Rotary Club has the honor of sponsoring Anna.

On May 2, 2024, Lincoln South Rotary Club celebrated 40-Years of Service at Capital View Winery.

District Governor Kathryn Schubert visited and presented the "State of the District". Suzanne presented the book "Of Time and Turtles" to Mary as a tribute to her turtle presentations this year.

Rotary District 5650, under the direction of Randy Bretz District Public Image Chair, is working on a project about Rotary's Image in our District. UNL Students are helping develop a strategy of telling the Rotary story to the public.

The 2022-23 recognition was accepted by President Mary during the District Conference on October 13, 2023 and presented to President 2022-23 Matt at our meeting on October 20, 2023. Joe and Sheryl Roberts walked through the Historic District in Savannah - along Liberty Street. They stopped to read the plaque about the Rotary Club of Savannah which was founded in 1914.

The Lincoln South Rotary Club Foundation granted $2,000 to Villa Marie Home & School For Exceptional Children. The wine tasting fundraiser supports these grants.

Lincoln South Rotary Club, with matching funds from Rotary District Grants, supported a free tree distribution which was held October 22, 2022. There were 250 trees distributed to families in low- to moderate- income residential neighborhoods in Lincoln.

Chan Tyrrell presented himself as "the recovering Rotarian". He was wearing literally all of the Rotary pins he had collected over the years.

Audrey is originally from Minnesota, moving to Nebraska while she was in grade school. She attended Doane College.

Suzanne Tyrrell was born in Minneapolis but her family moved to Lincoln when she was a toddler. She is an only child.

Jim O'Hanlon is from Blair, Nebraska - a 4th generation Blair resident on both his mother's and father's families.

Joyce Michaelis is retired after teaching at Nebraska Wesleyan University for 44 years.

Joyce Schmeeckle performs research evaluation for nonprofits and government grants which has allowed her to be expose to the many good people in our community.

Jason Varga is with Cause Collective. He described it as a sort of Chamber of Commerce for Non-Profit Organizations.

Bobby Cunningham was born in Kansas. When his parents became missionaries when he was 2 he found himself living in various countries around the world.

Clay Ehlers was honored with the District 5650 Cadwallader Award. This is the highest honor presented for service in our District.

Shannon Booth and her family moved to Lincoln because of Shannon's job - Manager of Channel 10 KOLN/KGIN TV station.

Tami came to Rotary after visiting with Chan at a Family Reunion.

We learned about Henrik Christensen at Rotary on March 29, 2019.

Sunitha "Suni" Kasibhatla shared the story of her life and love on January 18 at Lincoln South Rotary Club.

We got to know a little more about member Sreenivasa "Srini" Ampavati at Lincoln South Rotary Club on January 11.

On September 28, "Air Force Brat" Bruce Remington told us about his background, work and interests.

On September 21 we heard from Jean Lovell during our Member Moment segment.

During the Lincoln South Rotary Club meeting on June 22 we got to hear a Member Moment from Maxine Moul.

Thank you to Tracey McLain for sharing personal information during her Member Moment. We learned that she has 92 first cousins . . . and she knows them all!

Brad doesn't like the smell or taste of pumpkin, making this time of year particularly trying for him.
